This illustration is inspired by a small event in a book called "The Crown Conspiracy", part of a book series called "The Riyria Revelations" by Michael J. Sullivan. If you haven't heard of it it's about two thieves in a medieval style world accidentally getting caught up in a bid to create a new world empire. It's good fun, so I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a good adventure to read. Anyway, this started as a doodle to try to nail one of the main characters, Hadrian Blackwater, but I was having a lot of fun with the barmaid so I just kept going. What can I say, I have a thing for busty, size twelve barmaids...just ask my fiance'. More illustrations from this book to come and any comments welcome!
Very cool, I love the Riyria Revelations books. Great drawing, though in my mind Hadrian was a bigger bulkier guy, but this does match the depiction on the Orbit covers.
Thanks for the support, much appreciated. To be honest, when I read Hadrian I think of a muscular George Clooney. But that's just me. Be sure to look our for some more Riyria illustrations, I've got a many more in the works as it were.
Wow! Thanks so much for this. I'm anxiously looking forward to see what else you come up with. My daughter is always telling me that I won't "make it" until I have fanart and fanfic so thanks for getting me 1/2 way there. Would you mind if I reposted in a blog entry? I'll give full credit of course.

Thank you, your compliment means a lot to me; Riyria Revelations has quickly become one of my favorite series! I really look forward to doing more work based on your novels. They're full of great visual ideas (though I have to admit that depicting Avempartha is a little intimidating) and Royce and Hadrian are a classic swash-bluckling duo. I would be honored if you used my pictures for your blog. Currently I'm a Disney World artist and after work is done it's fun to visualize subjects that are a bit more adventurous. Please feel free to contact me here if you have any images you would particularly like to see or have done for your blog.
Good to see some fan art for this book series. I wish there was more. We all imagine the characters a little differently but I still like your representation of Hadrian.
Thank you! You're right, I wish there was more too, on the other hand it leaves it an open book (as it were) and a great chance to do some really good conceptual illustration without any prior taint. Be sure to look for more, there's a few pictures from the books I'm gathering material for and hopefully I can get the first one done soon!
